Honeymoon is probably the most romantic things associated with marriage. The whole experience of sightseeing coupled with romantic escapades, is something to be remembered for a lifetime. A newly married couple wants some very cherished private moments, away from the humdrum of daily life. What better place can you visit other than India? To begin with, India is a honeymooner’s paradise, complete with beautiful natural surroundings, beaches, hill stations, winter and summer resorts. There are numerous places that a newly wedded couple can visit and enjoy. Among the many places that can be visited, I would like to bring to your notice, some very famous places that are considered a heaven for honeymooning couples. Let me begin with Kerala.
Kerala- God’s own country
Known as the abode of Gods, Kerala offers tranquility and solace to your hearts. From magnificent backwaters; awesome and pristine beaches; beautiful hill stations, exotic wildlife sanctuaries to classical dance forms; Kerala has everything that a honeymooning couple can wish for. It is situated on the Malabar coast with Arabian sea as its next door neighbor! There is no dearth of tourist places that can give you a pleasurable time. Places like Periyar wildlife sanctuary, Munnar, the backwaters of Alleppey, Kumarakom and Kottayam, offer picturesque locales with comfortable accommodation facilities.
For all those who want to experience a calm and quite atmosphere, Periyar wildlife sanctuary offers them the best of services, catering to people with different budgets. The park is situated amidst forested hills and is a marvel of nature. One can see majestic elephants, birds, deers, and if lucky, tigers too can be found. Apart from the forested locales, young couples can engage in some private hobbies like cycling and trekking, with prior permission. This sanctuary is located about 1 km distance from a small picturesque town called Kumily. This is a shopper’s paradise. Young couples, starting with their conjugal lives, can buy a whole wide range of aromatic spices. Kumily is a spice lover’s town. You can get every spice you can think off. The best part are the cheap rates. At Kumily, you can also buy some souvenirs from antique shops, which I highly recommend. I visited this place when in college. Many tour magazines will exclude this town as it is not that showy. But is surely, worth a visit. There are beautiful resorts ranging from 5 star hotels to forest guest houses. There are special discounts that are offered to couples during monsoons.
If you are the sort that loves to sit and romance your wife, at the pristine and sandy beaches, then Kovalam beach is your next joint. Known as the paradise of the South, Kovalam beach offers tourists sandy and coconut covered beaches with the backdrop of local houses and shacks. It comprises of three curved beaches, the most breathtaking, being the lighthouse beach. The beautiful beach with a towering lighthouse is sure to enthrall all visitors. If you like to soak in the earthly goodness, then treat yourself to an ayurvedic massage, offered in various spas and centers. It is visited by a million tourists each year, who come for rejuvenation and relaxation. The beach is also frequented by locales, and as such, you should take care of your belongings and valuables. Female travelers should keep a safe distance from strangers as Kerala is a conservative state.
For honeymooners, who are foodies, you could tuck your tummies with some delectable spread of ‘Keralite’ cuisine. Prawns, lobsters, crabs and all kinds of sea food will be served to suit your palette.
Other places worth visiting are Kumarakom where the ‘lovey dovey’ honeymooners can take a backwater cruise in the breathtaking county side of Kerala. The Taj hotel conducts its very own houseboat tours, which are exotic in the real sense. Though, expensive, you will never forget your honeymoon.
Go Goa
Have you had your Goan experience yet? If you are a newly wedded couple, then Goa is the place where you can explore nature’s beautiful bounty and yourselves too! It will be best to visit Goa when it is pouring cats and dogs. Come on, which newlywed couple would like to venture out in the first place? May be a stroll down the beaches of Agonda will infuse passion and love in your hearts? This beach is perfect for honeymooning couples as it offers privacy and some alone time with each other. Other beaches not frequented by too many tourists are, Benaulim, Candolim and Calangute.
The archipelago is a must see on every honeymooner’s itinerary as it boasts of some very pristine and unexploited beaches and lagoons. The islands of Bangaram, Agatti and Kadmat are all well connected, offering beautiful and exotic marine life and coral reefs. Honeymooning couples can participate in many water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling and fun rides. The whole idea of venturing into the sea waters, with your spouse is amazing. This place is also a foodie’s paradise as one can get to eat a handsome spread of sea food.
Ooty, Manali and Srinagar
If you both are mountain lovers, then the hill stations of Ooty, Manali and Srinagar are worth a visit. While Ooty is located in Southern India, Manali and Srinagar are the jewels of Northern Himalayas.
Places to visit in Ooty are Botanical Gardens, Lamb’s Rock and the lake, which are the most popular joints for newly weds.
You can also plan your trip to Srinagar to view some exotic and magnificent natural beauty. The Dal Lake would be your ultimate choice, if you want to take that romantic ride in the Shikaras along with your sweetheart! The Shalimar gardens here are a treat to watch. The months of June and July are the most awaited as the place comes to life when thousands of tourists gather to witness the flower festival, held every year.
Manali, in Himachal Pradesh, is a picturesque hill station, frequented by honeymooning couples, who would prefer cozying up to each other in the many beautiful hotels and resorts that cater specially to these love birds. The Hadimba temple and Rohtang Pass are a few sight seeing places that allow you to indulge in divinity along with skiing and other sports. Manali is also famous for Tibetan food. Who would not like to savor the tasty thuppas and momos?
Travelling to India is an experience that you will cherish for life. Do not miss this opportunity to get one with nature.
